HEPATITIS AWARENESS PROGRAM
It's 6:30 in the morning on 29th of
July 2018 and IES Management College and Research Centre , Bandra is
bustled with people. Members of hetero healthcare in association with the
student council of IPA-MSB-SF organized Hepathon- a walk for liver. This being
one of the many awareness programs organised by Hetero Healthcare , aiming to
raise public awareness on hepatitis with the focus on prevention,
diagnosis and effective ways to manage the disease with latest treatment options.
Pharmacy students from all over mumbai turned up in huge number , more than
1300 pharma students walked for liver.
Hepatitis, refers to an inflammatory
condition of the liver, which people are unable to recognize due to their lack
of knowledge. Some cases have no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they can
include yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue and
fever. Hepatitis is 50 times more easily transferable than AIDS. But thanks to
science , now there are cure and treatment available for all the types of
hepatitis. By taking further precautions this disease can be eradicated just
like polio. A study says that with proper awareness and understanding of
hepatitis, upto 4000 lives can be saved every day. With more than 95% people
unaware of their infection status, awareness on hepatitis is the key for
elimination.
One could see the Enthusiasm and
determination in the eyes of the participants on that Sunday morning, as many
of them reached before the reporting time. The registrations started at 7:30 .
Labcoats, banners , pamphlets, posters related to hepatitis were provided. A
3km walk started at 9 p.m. as the students marched out of the gates of IES
Management College and Research Centre. The walk ended at IES college itself.
Helping hands from the police ensured that traffic was not a problem. An
interactive seminar was scheduled after the walk. Dr. Prateik Poddar, an
eminent gastroenterologist and hepatologist, currently working with Sion
hospital, enlightened the participants on hepatitis and the reasons why
awareness on this deadly disease is a must. He also highlighted the role
Students can play in spreading the awareness about the chronic disease.
Students asked some interesting doubts and questions related to hepatitis and liver
and Dr. Poddar was happy to answer them all.
The seminar ended on a thank you
note.
Our Media partners Times of India and
The Hindustan Times made sure that the message of this campaign was spread far
beyond the students who marched for it while the Public Relation Officer team
live streamed the entire event on Facebook and Instagram so that more people
could connect with the
campaign.
Individual commitment to a
group effort that is what makes a team work ---this is what the students forum
of IPA-MSB, hetero healthcare and celebrations proved by making this event a
huge success
