On 20th October a visit to pathology department of JJ Hospital was conducted. Around 15 students of various colleges such as NMIMS , VES and SVBCP attended the session.
Session was conducted by Dr. Niveditha madam who is a second year resident in the hospital pursuing MD in Pathology.
Initially a brief introduction regarding the pathology department, autopsy department and hematology department was given .
Later a small tour to these departments and working of each department was well explained.The process of tissue processing ,right from the collection, the linking steps along with various instruments used till the staining of these sections was very well explained. Students were able to see preserved organs in autopsy department and various instruments used in the meuseum
Later students were taken to M.O.P.D. department where in information regarding the blood testing and body fluids analysis was given . An idea regarding the cancer cells and cancer biology was given and even students were able to observe "blast cells" under the microscope.
With session coming towards an end the madam and the students had a small discussion regarding how this information will help in pharmacy field . Session was conducted for about 1 and 1/2 hour .
Feedback from students stated that they liked session and are hoping to attend similar visits to other hospitals as well.
